Today is Shrove Tuesday, taken from a description of the day which many would seek to be “shriven” before the discipline of Lent. In other words, our priests will tell us “Go to Confession”!
Today is also called “Fat Tuesday”. When the discipline of Lent was much more serious than it is today in the Latin Church, today was the last day before Easter you could eat animal fats, etc.
To be good Catholic Christians, our lives must take on the qualities of the mysteries we profess. We are our rites. Our prayer should be that our lives reflect what the Church offers liturgically all through Lent.
